Director
Sharp FX is led by Russell Sharp, a highly accomplished special makeup and creature effects artist with over 30 years of hands-on industry experience.
Russell’s passion for makeup effects began at age 11 in rural New South Wales, inspired by a love of art and classic horror films. After completing formal beauty and prosthetic makeup courses in Sydney, his career began on Babe 2: Pig in the City, followed by three years as a sculptor and eventual Head of Art Department at a major theming company.
As a freelance artist, Russell contributed to iconic productions including The Matrix 2 & 3, Queen of the Damned, and Ghost Rider, before founding Sharp FX to pursue his vision for practical effects at the highest level.
His extensive filmography spans major Australian and international projects such as The Hobbit Trilogy, Wolf Creek TV Series, House of Wax, Anacondas, Troy, Prey, and The Dark Lurking, among others.
Today, Russell continues to guide each Sharp FX project from concept to completion, blending traditional artistry with innovative techniques to push the boundaries of what’s possible in practical effects.
